ANA VIVANCOS Assistant Professor Dr. Vivancos specializes in 19th to 21st centuries Spanish and Catalan Literatures and Film. She is particularly interested in the ever-present relationship between concepts of nation and gender, and how their images are presented by genres as diverse as films, plays, novels, poetry or TV shows. The intersections of national cultures –in particular, Catalan culture in relation to the traditionally considered Spanish (Castilian) as well as the interaction between Catalan culture and other national cultures—are central to her investigations.
Dr. Vivancos earned an MA and doctoral degree in Comparative Literature at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with a dissertation about the relationship between the representations of masculinity and the nation in Spanish popular film of the 1960s and 1970s. Before that, she received a licenciatura in English literature and a M.A. in Film Writing from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She also became ABD in Cultures and Literatures of the Commonwealth at the Universitat de Barcelona.
She is currently working on a manuscript of a book about masculinities in Spanish popular cinema. |
