Preliminary Written Examination in French Reading Lists

N.B. For a complete description of the preliminary written examination process, please see the Graduate Handbook. Students will prepare their lists in consultation with the doctoral Advisory Committee.

* GENRE examination: 4 primary works from each of the lists. Students will also read secondary and theoretical works as recommended by the committee.

* PERIOD examination: 25 primary works from one period or area listed. *N.B. At the discretion of their Advisory Commitee, students specializing in contemporary French and/or Francophone literature may devise a combined list including works from the 20th/21st century and Francophone lists. Students will also read secondary and theoretical works as recommended by the committee.

* PROBLEMATIC examination: individualized reading list to be developed by the student in consultation with the Advisory Committee.
