Rapports:
Language, Culture, Communication

Fifth Edition

Bienvenue aux Internautes!

Welcome to the World Wide Web Site for Rapports!

Rapports is a first-year college French textbook written by Joel Walz and Jean-Pierre Piriou, both of the Department of Romance Languages at the University of Georgia, and published by Houghton Mifflin. The purpose of this web site is to connect users of Rapports to authentic documents from around the francophone world via the World Wide Web. All cultural references in the textbook that have corresponding web sites have links on these pages. Studying Chapter 13 in class? Go to the Table of Contents, click on Chapter 13, and see what is available!

This web site contains over 300 links to authentic documents arranged in their order of appearance in the fourth edition of Rapports (1997). Sites appear and disappear frequently, so mark this with a bookmark and check back often!

New Activities with Rapports and the Web!

A new Web site now provides guided learning activities that students can carry out using links provided to the World Wide Web. Each activity corresponds to cultural or linguistic information provided in the textbook, but the activities can be used by teachers and students without the book. The activities ask students to scan a site for specific information or draw conclusions. Users can print out their typed answers or e-mail them directly to their teachers. Click on the link below.

Rapports

You may search this site by clicking on the chapter you want in the Table of Contents below. The sites are listed in order of their appearance in each chapter in Rapports: a term in italics (Commençons, Enrichissons, Communiquons, Lecture) is a section heading within each chapter. A roman numeral plus a letter refers to a specific activity in the Grammaire section. Any words in blue letters and underlined are "hot links" that you can click on and go directly to the web site. All sites are in French except a few of exceptional interest, which are all marked with "(angl.)".

Launch Sites

Certain web sites provide you with links (liens) to a number of other sites of similar interest. Unlike this site, which follows the content of Rapports, 4th edition, most launch sites are organized by subject matter (art, music, etc.).

If you want to search a theme yourself, use a search engine. Google is the most thorough, and it allows the user to limit a search to sites in a specific language. If you want to conduct your search in French, use Yahoo! France or the French search engine Voilà.
