Olá!
I'm Vera Bulla and I was born in Piauí, Brazil, and I am a PhD candidate in the Portuguese Program. I am in my fourth year at UGA with two completed graduate certifications: Latin American and Caribbean Studies Graduate Certificate and Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies. My undergraduate degree is in Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and my Masters degree is in Portuguese and Spanish Literature. For my Masters thesis I researched comic strips by the Brazilian cartoonist, Laerte. I was treasurer and president of the Brazilian Student Association from 2014 to 2019 and we won the award for Best Symposium in 2018. My current research explores female characters in literature who are confronted with environmental disasters such as drought and floods.
Other interests include Brazilian comic strips, Fantastic literature, Ecocriticism, Ecofeminism, Women's Studies and Indigenous Studies. I also have a Youtube channel called Fantástico Feminino where I created a project called "Ouça Mulheres" ("Hear the Women"), where I upload audios and videos of volunteers who read fantastic short stories written by women writers.
Courses taught: PORT 1001, PORT 1002, PORT 1110, PORT 3010.
I am also a Portuguese tutor for the federally-funded Portuguese Flagship Program at UGA.
