Graduate students from the Portuguese and Spanish programs in the Department of Romance Languages represented the University of Georgia at the Tenth Chicago Graduate Conference in Hispanic, Luso-Brazilian, and Latinx Studies, one of the premier interdisciplinary conferences for emerging scholars in the field. UGA was represented by Diana Trindade Drumond, Fabio Mariano, Yasmin Paiva de Siqueira, Fabio Passos, and Francisco Zamparini, whose participation showcased the strength and breadth of the department's graduate research.

The conference was jointly organized by the Department of Hispanic and Italian Studies at the University of Illinois Chicago, the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Northwestern University, and the Program in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian Studies at the University of Chicago. This year's theme, The Inhumanities, invited participants to engage in interdisciplinary conversations about research, creativity, and resistance across a range of scholarly perspectives. Presentations explored topics including colonialism, race, gender, sexuality, extractivism, and experimental artistic practices.

For UGA's graduate students, the conference provided an opportunity to present original research, receive feedback from scholars across the country, and build professional connections within the fields of Hispanic, Luso-Brazilian, and Latinx Studies. Participation in national and international conferences is an important part of graduate training in the Department of Romance Languages, enabling students to refine their scholarship, expand their academic networks, and contribute to conversations shaping the future of the discipline.
