Laura Isabel dos Santos Vieira

Olá!

I was born in Roraima, Brazil, and I am a fifth year PhD candidate in Romance Languages, studying the construction and representation of Latin American identities in contemporary comic books and graphic novels. During my Master's at Universidade Federal Flumimense (Niteói - RJ), I researched contemporary Brazilian literature and graphic novel adaptations, and the representation of indigenous identities in the Amazon.

Back in Brazil, I was a Middle and High School teacher of Portuguese language and literature. At UGA, I am a Portuguese and Spanish Teaching Assistant. I have worked as a Portuguese tutor for the Flagship program and I was president of the Brazilian Student Association (BSA) for the academic year of 2019-2020.

Teaching is my passion! I have over 10 years of classroom experience with students of all ages - from kindergarten to veterans. In 2023, I was granted the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award by the Center for Teaching and Learning at UGA.

I'm also a hardcore swiftie who also listens to metal, and drinks an unhealthy amount of black coffee. I have a little tuxedo boy cat (Kiwi) and a 120lb lady dog (Tally). I speak un peu de French, and I'm currently studying Italian and Dutch!
