Students of Portuguese at UGA gain excellent language skills and training in the literature, media, culture, history, and politics of the fascinating and diverse Luso-Brazilian world.  

Romance Languages majors with a focus on Portuguese graduate with a unique set of skills that prepare students for professional school in law or medicine, graduate school, and a broad spectrum of career pathways in public and private sector employment. 

Deciding between a Portuguese minor and a Portuguese Italian major? The ROML AB Option VII Area of Emphasis in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies is just three more courses.

FLAGSHIP Program Study Abroad

In collaboration with The Language Flagship and the Federal University of Sao Joao del Rey - Minas Gerais, the mission of UGA’s Portuguese Flagship Program is to train students with superior level proficiency in Portuguese and overseas internship experience, to create the next generation of global professionals.
