Alumni Status
A memorable international experience at Georgia was participating in colloquiums, film festivals, and conferences that brought together people with diverse cultural, racial, and social backgrounds from across the world. At events such as ROML Colloquiums, En Corto Film Festival, and Crossroads Graduate Conference, I was able to network, meet local, national, and international scholars and activists, and build professional relationships. The opportunity to be involved in these initiatives has been fundamental in my growth as a citizen, scholar, and educator.
Studying language, literature, and culture at Georgia prepared me to teach in diverse academic disciplines including literature and cultural, gender, and Indigenous studies at the undergraduate and graduate level. The knowledge I attained through the Department of Romance Languages Ph.D. program in Hispanic Studies has prepared me to develop curricula and study programs that are interdisciplinary and focus on salient social issues in the United States and abroad. Without the guidance, support, and input I received from faculty, I would have not been able to pursue a career in Higher Education.
I encourage students at Georgia today to take courses in the Department of Romance Languages and explore all the opportunities they provide. In addition to offering innovative undergraduate and graduate courses, faculty encourages and supports students’ research initiatives. Thanks to the travel grants I received from the Department, I was able to present my work at international conferences in Spain, Peru, and South Africa. With the support of faculty, I obtained funding to complete archival research abroad. Their comments and feedback made my research proposals stronger, more vibrant, and clearer. Faculty members in the Department of Romance Languages will prepare you to achieve academic excellence while providing a student-centered environment that fosters collaboration, kindness, and respect.
