As a language major you will learn to see the world more fully. Our faculty prepare you to be a true global citizen and leader in your community. Knowing more than one language is fast becoming a requirement for anyone who wants to thrive in a society where relationships are global. Our immersive programs guide you to high levels of oral and written fluency using iconic and contemporary cultural materials. As a major you will learn to select and analyze relevant information. You will construct better questions and refine knowledge, becoming a competent interpreter of data and meaning. You will gain the confidence to connect with more people and go more places through transformed social skills, mental flexibility, emotional awareness and sharper decision-making. In combination with all fields and majors, language study boosts your potential and activates international opportunities. At more advanced levels, a focus on language and culture leads to fulfilling careers. Our graduate students are mentored in the latest research methods and areas of academic inquiry in the fields of linguistics, literary and cultural studies in a supportive and active scholarly community.
