Two Romance Languages graduate students will present papers in the Romance Languages Colloquium: Julia Hernández on "Plinean Amerindians: Textuo-Visual Feedback Loops in the First European Accounts of the Americas" and Ximena González-Parada will discuss "Contesting National Narratives: Chocó and the Reimagining of Black Communities in Colombia."

Textual Machines is an international symposium exploring literary objects that produce texts through the material interaction with mechanical devices or procedures. We define “textual machines” as a perspective on literature and book objects where text is “a mechanical device for the production and consumption of verbal signs” (Espen J. Aarseth).

Dr. Fuad Elhage, French and Spanish instructor in the Department of Romance Languages, is participating in the Dancing with the Athens Stars event in order to raise funds for Project Safe, an organization dedicated to helping women and children who have suffered domestic abuse. We are delighted to announce that Professor Robert Moser has been awarded a 2015 OIE (Office of International Education) Study Abroad Award in recognition of his outstanding efforts in establishing and successfully directing the Portuguese Flagship Program.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Diana Cullell Teixedor will be visiting us from the University of Liverpool (UK) on Wednesday, March 4, when she will present a talk in our colloquia series on "(Re)locating Prestige: Poetry Readings, Poetry Slams, and Poetry Jam Sessions in Contemporary Spain" in Gilbert 115 from 12:15-1:15PM. In its seventh year, our Italian Movie  Night Series, which will start next week,  February 24,  is dedicated to Marcello Mastroianni, an internationally acclaimed Italian actor (1924-1996)  whose career lasted more than fifty years.

Each of the four films will be shown on Tuesdays, at 7:00 p.m. in the Z. Miller Student Center, room 148 (see attached flyer):

Crossroads is an interdisciplinary conference led by graduate students in the Department of Romance Languages at the University of Georgia. We strive to promote original graduate research by providing a platform for graduate students to hone their professional skills and to engage in discussions with scholars. We are committed to create a sense of community between graduate students across disciplines and institutions.
