Portuguese students in the Department of Romance Languages had the privilege of receiving Brazilian percussionist Bill Lucas and Brazilian singer Maria Kamila, lead singer of Perrengue’s band, last week to learn about Brazilian rhythms. The article "Processing dissociations between raising and control in Brazilian Portuguese" recently appeared in the First View portion of the Journal of Linguistics. This article was co-published by UGA Department of Linguistics alumnus Dr. Douglas Merchant (PhD, 2019) and Dr. Timothy Gupton. This project started before the Covid-19 pandemic, and is the first manuscript resulting from this collaboration. Congratulations to them!

Luana Santos is an M.A. student at the University of Georgia. Her research interests are Brazilian music and literature. I was born in São Paulo, Brazil, but have lived in Campinas from my first year of life until I came to UGA.
