The article "Processing dissociations between raising and control in Brazilian Portuguese" recently appeared in the First View portion of the Journal of Linguistics. This article was co-published by UGA Department of Linguistics alumnus Dr. Douglas Merchant (PhD, 2019) and Dr. Timothy Gupton.

Amandine Gay's documentary Ouvrir la voix is a series of personal interviews of French and Belgian Black women. During this event, we will watch part of this documentary about the necessity for ethnic-based statistics in France. Brazilian Portuguese has its own pronunciation, structure, and vocabulary that can be traced back to the influence of African enslavement by colonial Portugal in Brazil. In this workshop, you will learn the specifics of the pronunciation of Brazilian Portuguese while also learning how it came to be and its relation to Afro-Brazilian culture.
