España en Corto Film Festival

Please plan to join us for the 11th annual España en Corto Spanish Short Film Festival Tuesday, March 26th and Wednesday, March 27th at the Georgia Museum of Art.
 
We have selected 11 short films for this upcoming festival. The event is from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Doors will open around 6:30 pm and we'll have some snacks and coffee before we get started.

Beyond the Hardcourt: Basketball Empire and the Larger US-Francophone Sporting Connections

Dr. Lindsay Sarah Krasnoff, historian, writer, journalist, and founding director of the sports diplomacy initiative #FranceAndUS, will present her book Basketball Empire, which provides a in-depth account of the French contribution to the growth and global reach of the NBA and the WNBA. Dr. Krasnoff will also discuss basketball diplomacy in Africa, part of an oral history project, as well as the greater context of Franco-American sports diplomacy in advance of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.

Willson Center Cinema Roundtable: Dudley Andrew and French Film History Today

French cinema is among the most celebrated in the world. Film Scholar Dudley Andrew’s new French Cinema: A Very Short Introduction (Oxford UP, 2024) provides a perfect test case for understanding why filmmaking in France has been so special. Thanks to Professor Andrew’s visit to Athens and UGA, this Cinema Roundtable will discuss the research, writing, and audience for books on France and its cinematic legacy.
